HP's Netbooks have traditionally come in two versions: consumer 10-inch models such as the Mini 210, and pro-level Netbooks such as the Mini 5103. The $299 Mini 1103 is both and neither. An affordable business/education-targeted Netbook, it has a bare-bones design while offering better bells and whistles under the hood than similarly priced competitors: Bluetooth, a 7,200rpm hard drive, and mobile broadband antennas all come standard. An excellent battery life only adds to its appeal. In the end, the Mini 1103 is still a 10-inch single-core Atom Netbook, but it's one of the better budget Netbooks you can buy.
At first glance, there is genuinely little that differentiates the new HP Mini 1103 and the consumer-friendly HP Mini 210 HD. The new design of the 1103 features an exterior shell similar to the HP Pavilion dm1z and Pavilion dm3t, but it looks virtually identical to the rest of the Mini lineup. In fact, the only design element that really stands out as possibly being business oriented is the use of matte black plastics on the lower half of the chassis and the keyboard.
Claimed as an ideal travel companion, the HP 1103 has a 10.1-inch LED backlit WSVGA display, and features a stylish black design, with a 93% full sized keyboard. Connectivity wise the Mini 1103 features 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and optional integrated HP mobile broadband.
Comes with HP QuickSync which lets you easily synchronizes important data between other devices and HP QuickWeb enables access to the web in just seconds, even from when the computer is turned off.
It’s powered by either the Intel Atom N455 or N475 processor, and comes with a choice of either a 3-cell or 6-cell (55 WHr) battery. HP say that the 6-cell options enables all-day computing. It also features 2GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 7200 rpm hard drive up to 320 GB.
I’m all for business / smart looking netbooks and with a starting price of just $299, I’m sure the HP Mini 1103 will be very popular with business users and home users in general. The Mini 1103 is expected to be available this December.
